Nusom is a research centre dedicated to academic research in an interdisciplinary environment that integrates disciplines focused on sound studies.
We aimed to design a visual identity that reflected the experimental nature of the nucleus. This identity should be self-sufficient as Nusom does not have a professional responsible for its internal communication.
The Nusom brand reacts to the sound captured on the microphone. The user can design the logo using their voice, playing with objects or instruments.
To make this possible, we developed a program that captures the sound of the microphone and draws the logo for the user. This generative – or interactive – brand does not have a solid or unique shape; its identity comes from the rules that define the letters’ shapes.
The program developed with Processing can save the logo version as raster or vector format. It also designs textures in any resolution – to use on other identity applications. And last but not least, the program can compose posters with the logo, and pattern previously designed, plus some standard text inputs.
