TYPE DISRUPTOR

TBWA redesigned their visual identity and invited Plau and me to develop their typographic language. Plau designed a custom typeface with specific elements for the brand – and I was responsible for destroying their beautiful work. The challenge was to create motion disruptions in the typeface with custom software designed for this project.

We developed a complex system that converted the font into points – and used vector math to reposition these points for each disruption. The main technical challenge was to have a single system that was malleable enough to achieve so many different distortions using the same technique.

With this tool, anyone can design custom lettering in motion for social media, presentations and any other application. The user can choose the font, disrupt specific characters and export video, image or vector files directly from the browser.
